Lens vs Lyon Highlights & Replay

A high-stakes Ligue 1 encounter unfolded between Lens and Olympique Lyonnais, where tactical precision eventually gave way to a chaotic and thrilling finish. Both sides entered the match looking to establish dominance, setting the stage for a contest defined by individual brilliance and late-game drama.

Lens Take Control Through Sotoca

On October 9, 2026, Lens showcased their clinical edge in a first half dominated by the vision of Florian Thauvin. The playmaker was instrumental, providing a pinpoint assist in the 36th minute for Florian Sotoca, who found the back of the net with a composed right-footed finish. While Lyon attempted to build from the back, defensive lapses by Abner invited pressure, though the visitors managed to keep the deficit to a single goal heading into the break.

Udol’s Rollercoaster and the Red Card

The momentum stayed with the home side deep into the second half. In the 76th minute, Thauvin turned provider once again, delivering a cross that Matthieu Udol headed home to double the lead. However, the match took a dramatic turn in the 84th minute when Udol was shown a straight red card for a serious foul. The dismissal acted as a catalyst for a frantic final period, leaving Lens to defend their lead with ten men.

A Nervous Finish for the Hosts

Lyon capitalized almost immediately on the man advantage. In the 85th minute, a defensive blunder by Samson Baidoo allowed Khalis Merah to pounce on a loose ball and fire home, reducing the gap to 2-1. The closing stages were a test of nerves for Lens; goalkeeper Robin Risser produced a vital save from a Felix Bacher header in stoppage time to preserve the lead. Despite late pressure and multiple corners from Kail Boudache, Lens held firm to secure all three points.
